Around May we got the containers in place, and it was time to start moving!
I figured that after a couple of months, we'd be all moved, and get our house on the market, and we'd be done by July.
Man was I wrong.
We'd load up the van to the very top with products, food, boxes, tools and anything else that we could fit in there.
We decided to get REALLY SERIOUS and take JUNE off from everything, to JUST GET MOVED.
We took more vanloads... and by July... we realized...
After 3 months we hadn't even made a dent.
So, in Late July, we rented a 26ft long big box moving truck with a lift. (Shout out to Enterprise Rent-a-truck; they have killer rates.) They called the Mack truck "the Mac Daddy".
We have a bunch of volunteers in the 108 degree heat, helping us load boxes, our laser, our screenpress, and cases and cases of books.
Big thanks to Shawn, Jeff, sister Sara, & Tim who sweated like crazy lending some hands.

We rented our friends delivery van too, to take the little furniture that we were keeping. (Thanks to John & Erica.)

Dawna's brother Dirk drove the big rig (I fall asleep when I drive long distances and "dream-drive".)
We got to the land, and Erica, John, and Dirk worked their butts off helping us onload that crazy heavy equipment.
Big Garage Sale
To "downsize" we had a big yard and toy sale. Folks weren't very interested in our music equipment, furniture, glassware, theater seats... not really at all.
Nobody wanted any of this stuff, so we ended up giving it all away for free.
Toy Sale
The toy sale, on the other hand, was good.
I sold a bunch of toys that I've been holding onto since the early 90's, when I thought that I was going to start a toy store called "MONSTER MACHINE". Big thanks to Stephen, Bobby, and Julia for buying a bunch of the "good stuff".
I ended up selling most of my Star Wars collection, including most of my 70's classic figs, as well as some carded figures... and all of my 90's Power of the Force 2 vehicles and toys. The only things I kept was a set of Shogun Warriors, my Galactic Heroes SW, and one each of my finest old SW figs.
One Truck was not nearly enough
We quickly realized that one truckload wasn't going to cut it... so a week later, we did it all again. The heat... was pretty umbearable. People were asking me "why are you moving in July in Arizona"; I had no answer... we just had to.
So, we did it all again.
August and September
I honestly can't remember where these two months went.
We moved more stuff in the van. We spent some time at Camp and set up shelves, organized t-shirts, moved boxes/furniture.
We had to find our booth stuff, and we did a quick 2-day show.
oh crap, it's October
So, it's now October. We HAVE to get out of the Peoria, AZ place, and get down to Camp, permanently.
Peoria House Status
- Internet access
- Sleep on the big long couch
- Mailing computer and printer for shipping
- Tables, junk, stuff is littered about
- There's stuff to donate and pack
- House needs some TLC; needs paint, repairs, and yard care
- Time is now to sell
Camp Monstro Status
- No internet at Camp
- Container Shop and Warehouse have no electricity
- Laser & screen press & 3d printers are inoperable sans power
- Warehouse is getting more organized
- Shop now has wire shelves up, and organization has begun
Runway is short
Because we've cut out all but 1 show so that we have time to move, our runway (ie, savings) is rather short.
We're going to look into those short sale places, you know the ones... "LET KARL SELL YOUR HOUSE IN 24 HOURS" sorts of places.
I know, I know... they're going to give us lowball offers. They have to.
But, we don't have the time or money to drag this out further. We're going to at least check and see what they say.
Time to Sell
For now, we're moving junk, donating stuff, boxing other things, and trying to at least get everything out of the house.
I can't wait to actually be done with it all, for the next bigger adventure.
